Surfing competitions

The summer sun is out everybody! Do you know what that means? Beach trips and surf competitions. I could not be more excited to live life right now. Winter always leaves me feeling miserable and morbid. Surfing is a huge part of my life and lifestyle, so whenever I can’t surf I genuinely start feeling like a huge part of me is missing. My interest in surfing definitely started when I was around twelve years old. My two older brothers were competitive surfers so my family would take regular road trips to various beach locations around Australia for competitions. I guess it was only natural for me to eventually start competing too, given that I was surfing every weekend.

There’s a lot of planning and preparation that goes into surfing. One big one is arranging a car air conditioning service. Moorabbin is quite close to beaches so I’m never really needing to go on extremely long drives, but many of the competitions are often further away so require a decent amount of driving. The feeling of being stuck in a car for over an hour with an air conditioner that is only blowing out hot hair is absolutely terrible. This is why I always make sure my car is serviced. The Australian heat can be quite ferocious, and even if you’re in the car while drenched in water, if the aircon is broken you’ll be dry and overheating in a matter of minutes.

I visit the mechanic in driving distance from Bentleigh for all my car needs. After my first few competitions, I realised I needed some storage racks on my car and a tow bar. This mechanic took care of all of that for me so now I don’t have the stress of worrying about how I will cram all my belongings into the car. Many people are often surprised when I tell them how many things I actually require for surfing, especially when I’m competing. No matter how much practice I need, how many things I need to buy, and how much driving I need to do… I’ll always love surfing.
